To us, food is one of the great pleasures in life. We believe that everything you eat and drink should make you happy.
Good tasty food. That's what Canteen is all about.


Made in house
We make pretty much everything at Canteen, from the soups to the buns to the cakes to the chai and even right down to the lemon marmalade (which is not only delicious but also helps manage the lemon peels from our homemade lemonade).
Keeping it local
What we don't make (the brioche and the sourdough, for instance) we buy from local, like-minded producers in the area.
This means we can control the quality and also the cost of the food you are buying. It also means we can keep our community thriving by putting money into the very talented local pool of chefs, producers and growers.




How it all started
Tara Vaughan-Hughes and Matty Glennon first met while working at the Dartington Estate. Tara had been Dartington's Head of Food and founder of the Green Table where Matty managed front of house. Pretty quickly they realised they shared the same energy and love for cooking and celebrating the best of local produce.
Being able to set up together at The Mansion in Totnes has given them the chance to roll up their sleeves and turn their ideas into something tangible — and edible! It’s become a place where good food and community naturally come together, welcoming anyone who wants a tasty bite to eat.
